More and more the discharge levels of municipal and industrial effluents are tightened by governments and authorities. This, in combination with the lack of fresh water which becomes more and more an issue in all parts of the world, makes the need for excellent cleaning of waste waters an important and urgent matter.

DMT has gained and developed through the years a lot of know-how, experience and references for cleaning of industrial waste waters with Sequential Batch Reactors (SBR).

An SBR-system consists out a bioreactor with an aeration system. Under the use of oxygen the breakdown of organic compounds takes place by biological bacteria (sludge). By switching on and off the aeration sequence also removal of nitrogen components can be implemented by nitrification and de-nitrification steps. After all the sequences of aeration (oxygen rich- and anoxic periods) the aeration system will stop for a period in which the sludge can settle down in the bioreactor. After this settlement period the clean effluent can be decanted of and discharged.

Characteristics of the SBR-system are:
• Simple process set-up
• Guaranteed performance in unstable feed variations (e.g. flow or COD-load)
• Compact design of bioreactor with integrated settlement process
• Usage of simple, reliable and easy to maintain “own” products
• Small footprint
• Standardized design resulting in low investment costs

DMT has designed and built full scale SBR-systems in several kinds of industries.

Also testing with pilot units can be performed by DMT in order to find the best suitable and economic attractive solution for every single case.

DMT SBR-systems are used in all kind of industries e.g. the food industry, beer- and beverage industry, tank cleaning industry and temporary provisions for all kind of waste waters.
