Odour Abatement Biofiltration
A Bio-filtration unit is, just like bio trickling filters, an environmentally friendly process. The reduction of air polluting components can be realised also in a DMT bio filtration unit.

During bio filtration , the polluted gas stream flows upwards through a filter bed. This filter bed consists out of biological material, e.g. compost, tree salt marsh or peat.  The filter material is a bearer of a thin water film in which micro-organisms live.  The pollutions in the gas stream dissolve partly in the water phase, partly attach to the filter material and are broken down by the present micro-organisms.  The packing material does hereby service as a supplier of the necessary nutrients.  The waste products of the degradation are carbon dioxide, sulphate, nitrate, etc.

Since the resorption needs time, there has to be a certain residence time for the air in the bio-filter. That is to say, a low surface loading of the bio-filter and thus a relatively large filter.

Often a bio-filter has a higher air resistance than an biotrickling filter. This depends upon the type of biomass, the speed of mineralization and the filter maintenance.

Advantages of the DMT Biofilters are:

- Low investments and workings expense
- Simple construction
- Good removal of biodegradable components (also bad water soluble components as xylenen, styreen)
- Little waste water
- Little waste material (only replace filter material)
