Requirements of air emission are more and more strict. The most common techniques for removing pollutants out of the air are: biofilter, biotrickling filter, activated carbon and chemical scrubbing. If an air treatment has to be very reliable and compact, or the pollutants aren’t biodegradable, chemical scrubbing is a serious option.
Different options for chemical scrubbing are removing ammonia, hydrogensulfide, fatty acids, acids, alkalines, VOC’s, etc. For different types of pollutants, different kinds of chemicals has to be used, like oxidants, acids and caustic.
Advantages of the DMT chemical scrubbers
• Compact
• Reliable, even with high fluctuations
• High flows can be treated
• Efficient removal of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide
Process description:
The air enters the unit at the bottom, passes the packing material (for high exchanging area) and demister (for removing droplets from the air) and leafs the unit. The water is sprayed at the top of the packing material and will be in counter current with the air. The water is circulated for an optimized use of chemicals and water. The dosing of chemicals can be controlled by pH, conductivity, or other kinds of measurements.
Combination
Chemical scrubbers can be used in combination with for example a biofilter. The chemical scrubber can remove high peeks of pollutants and humidify the air, and the biofilter can remove the lower concentrations of all kinds of pollutants.
