a combination of DMT Sulfurex® and BioSulfurex® desulphurization systems

Zeitz - Germany - Biogas, produced at the anaerobic wastewater treatment plant at Crop Energies, needs to be treated for further utilization. Due to specifications the biogas needs to be desulphurized and dried before entering the turbines, boiler and/or RTO (regenerative thermal oxidation). DMT Environmental Technology delivered the biogasdesulphurization and drying plant as a combination of DMT Sulfurex® and BioSulfurex® desulphurization systems. This is a rather unique solution having the benefits of  both chemical and biological processes.

A biogasflow of 625 Nm3/h produced at the anaerobic wastewater treatment plant contains 70 – 75 % methane with a maximum of 5.000 ppm H2S. To reduce the hydrogen sulphide concentration to the required maximum of 50 ppm, a combination of DMT Sulfurex® and BioSulfurex® desulphurization systems has been delivered. The hydrogen sulphide is biologically oxidized in the biological reactor to sulphuric acid and elemental sulphur. The chemical scrubber operates under normal conditions as a condenser and dryer. If the biological reactor is not able to remove the entire amount of sulphide or is locked out for maintenance, the DMT Sulfurex® chemical scrubber starts working as a back-up system. Commissioning and start-up of the plant is foreseen in the next months.
