February 2011 Bucharest - DMT has delivered a DMT BioSulfurex
® plant to the WWTP of Bucharest, Romania. This plant will desulfurise and dry the biogas of the plant before it is used to fuel a combined heat and power installation. The DMT BioSulfurex
® will treat a biogas flow of 1600 m
3/h and reduce the H
2S concentration in the biogas to less than 70 ppm.
The plant consists of two main units. The first unit is a biological reactor. Here microorganisms (thiobacillus thiooxidans bacteria) remove H
2S by converting it to H
2SO
4 with the available O
2. The H
2SO
4 is discharged in the water phase. A small flow of air will be added in the pressure room of the bioreactor, to supply the oxygen.
The second unit is a cooled chemical scrubber that removes peaks of H
2S by reaction with caustic (NaOH) and that dries the biogas by a condensation process. Afterwards the biogas flow is reheated, so the relative humidity of the gas is low enough to prevent condensation in the combined heat and power installation. The start up of the installation is planned in April of 2011.
